Brief:  Utställningskoncept

Location: Helsingfors, Finland

We see the ball of the pinball machine as a metaphor for the creative idea itself, reflecting its surroundings while being bounced back and forth. Suddenly it is given a tilt and a high score is achieved. However, in order to achieve this bouncing activity in a real office setting, the challenge is to achieve social interactive environment where cross-fertilizing of ideas can take place.

This social interaction space is essential and therefore our proposal is to place a dynamic lounge area centrally in the heart of the office space. Here staff can have informal meetings and chat over a coffee. The printers are also located here and in combination with all staff automatically passing through this lounge area when entering the office, this becomes an animated area where incidental meetings are encouraged.

The work stations are grouped around large tables. Projects have their own pin up spaces, including dedicated seating, scattered around the office, where group discussions can take place and where the development of the projects can be followed.

There is a meeting room in close proximity to the entrance, where groups of visitors can be met. From here there is easy access to the kitchen and lounge area if coffee for the visitors is needed.

The overall layout is configured in such a way that the more public and general needs are catered for in proximity to the entrance. The further in to the office one gets, the more private it gets.

There is a second meeting room placed in a cylinder in the heart of the work space. A ramp spirals around the outer perimeter of the cylinder, down into the raised flooring system into the meeting room which is located two steps below the office floor – a reference to the pinball rolling into a high score zone, as well as a way to reduce the height of the cylinder, reducing the visual impact making the meeting room a free standing object in the officescape.

Finally there is a single person office located centrally in the office making it easily accessible and part of all activities at the same time as being secluded.
