Little Red Ridinghood

This was the winning exhibition concept in a contest for the remake of the new permanent exhibition in The Maritime Museum in Stockholm. The proposal has nothing to do with ships or navigation but was a challenge in creativity and conceptualizing a story. Even though this exhibition was not planned to be realized, our ambition is to do so if we get the opportunity.

The concept involves the idea that every visitor takes the role of Little Red Ridinghood as he or she moves through the exhibition. The story is placed in an urban context and becomes a game. The visitors interact within the story and through choices and actions along the way becomes part of the exhibition. We wanted to put an angle to the story and let the theme emphasize the difficulties of growing up, and especially the transformation from being a girl and becoming a woman. It is a loaded and delicate subject which we wanted to raise questions about.

The exhibiton was designed in to different zones created in a circular shape, almost making the midlde zone a labyrint.

The diner (mothers kitchen) where you can eat pancaces and are presented with many differents variations of Little Red Ridinghood. The Subway station (forest) is the middle zone where the feeling of exposure is significant. Transition from childhood into the adult commuity is beginning. In the middle of the circular shape is the bedroom (grandmothers house) designed as a budoir with lace curtains.

In the assignment the part where the hunter comes to the rescue was edited out of the story and we chose to stop our story in the bedroom allowing the vistors to make up the end them selves.
